Spam is So Loved By Asia that The Company Decided to Invent the Meat-Free Version
The spam which was developed by OmniFoods, a Hong Kong based food producer and social enterprise where OmniFoods targets both vegetarians and meat eaters with its plant based food now seeking to provide better alternative that is less environmentally damaging than meat.
On average, Koreans eat 31.2 kilograms of pork per year, while people in mainland China eat 24.4 of kilogram and after selling minced pork to product both consumer and chain like Starbucks in China. OmniFoods founder, David Yeung mentioned that it is a clear path that the plant-based alternative to spam or luncheon meat becomes obvious. This is because spam is very much loved in Asia compare to the Western countries.
As yeung compared also that how widely bacon is used in all types of meals in the US while in Asia people prefer luncheon meat or spam more. With this meat-free version of Spam, where experts has said that we might hit the peak meat by 2030 and another study reveal that by going vegan for two-thirds of meals could help to cut down food related carbon emission by 60%. Around 39% of luncheon meat are consumed in Asia and China is still the biggest market.
