As they return home, according to local news, the husband wanted to assemble the cabinet and took out a piece of glass from the packaging, the glass shattered in the husband hand which then sending shards flying onto his body. While some shards nearly flew to his eye but luckily it landed on his eyelids as he has close his eye out of shock. While the man sustains other cuts on his right arm and left leg.
However, the wife Ms. Zhang mentioned that the product description indicated on the IKEA website mentioned that the cabinet glass is tempered glass, therefore it should be very durable. While IKEA agreed to replace the product and explained that the tempered glass might have broken due to heat.
But Zhang said that she is pleased as she has to wait for the exchange to be done on June 30, plus she has to make a trip down to IKEA to complete the refund. IKEA has then apologized and arranged for the cabinet to be taken away on Friday and mentioned that the DETOLF cabinet was made of tempered glass, and if the glass break, it will break into pebble-like pieces that are not sharp. But due to tension movements such as hard blows, the impact might cause the glass to break. IKEA also mentioned that they will report the incident to the developer of the product and will investigate further into this case.
