ITE Team Invents Face Shield With Melaphone For Teacher
Singapore, a group of Institute of Technical Education (ITE) staff has recently invented a face shield for their colleague to wear as they teach, the speciality about this face shield is it has a design which was inspired by megaphone, which is used for communication in environments such as laboratories and clean rooms, which must be kept germ-free and act as a diaphragm so that the user doesn’t need to project their voices too much.
According to the team’s discover and after experiments, even with a face mask worn together, the shield can still improve the sound pressure level or voice level by more than 4 decibels. ITE College principal Yek Tiew Ming said that they have queries from staff about student can’t hear the teacher voice when wearing mask or face shield, therefore with this new discovery. It might be a great help for all teacher.
Dr Yek also mentioned that there isn’t anything like this face shield yet in the market or in other schools, the first 50 shields have distributed across ITE’s three campuses earlier for staff to try out, while the next batch of 600 will be given to ITE College East staff this week. At the moment, 10 staff were involved in the project, so far the feedback has been very positive and if the teacher finds this useful, they will be happy to work with other teacher and schools to make this available for them.
