TraceTogether Token Battery Last 9 Months and Doesn’t Track Locations
The wearable contact tracing device were announced by the Smart Nation Programme Office Minister-in-charge Vivian Balakrishnan and started a lot of controversies earlier.
However, Roland Turner, the Chief Privacy Officer of a software company mentioned that this token can have a single 9-month battery life without charging. But the main concern from all others was the security on tracking location which might lead to a breach of location tracking on the user.
However, Mr. Turner confirmed that there was no GPS receiver present, which he then breaks down the GPS receiver contents into:
- System on a chip
- 64MB of flash memory
- Bluetooth radio
- Real-time clock
- Coin cell
- Power regulator
- Option resistors
- LEDs
- Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) pads (unsure)
As the moment, the token seems are still under work in progress and so far, this token can’t really be used as a location tracking device.
