S’porean Jailed for 4 Months After Obligate And Live Abroad Since Age 11
Lim, a 28-year-old Singaporean was sentenced to 4 months’ jail after remaining outside of Singapore without a valid exit permit for more than 8 years. Despite his lawyer’s argument that his father has kept him away in the dark and not serving the National Service (NS), he still pleads guilty to one charge under the Enlistment Act, with another charge considered for sentencing.
Lim was born in Singapore and lived here till he was 11 years old and then he moved to Australia in 2003 with his parents and becomes an Australia citizen 5 years later. Lim later on only found out that he has to fulfill his obligation when he tried to renounce his Singapore citizenship in 2016.
