So far, there are 28 employers have been fined $1,000 each for failing to comply with safe distancing measures for workers who are ferried by lorries. Not just the transport companies but even the lorry drivers will also be fined for the same offence, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said in a Facebook post on Friday (April 17).
These 28 employers were caught after their lorries were stopped and checked in an islandwide multi-agency enforcement operation by the MOM, Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Traffic Police that started on Monday.
The MOM is currently investigating another 4 employers for possible non-compliance. Under the law, a company or person can be fined up to $10,000 or jailed up to 6 months, or both.
For those who ferry people on lorry, with immediate effect, the transport company involved with the ferrying of workers using lorries and the driver will also be fined if the lorry is found to be non-compliant.
