Talk About Generosity: Twitter’s Boss – Jack Dorsey Pledges 28% of His Wealth For Relief Effort

by Brian Chan April 8, 2020

Everyone is doing their part for this pandemic. Even the Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is doing his part where he said on Tuesday (April 7) he was committing US$1 billion (S$1.4 billion) of his personal fortune to coronavirus relief through his philanthropic fund.

This contribution will be around 28 per cent of his overall wealth. This is really generous from the boss.

As you all might know, it’s a nightmare now in US where there is a shortage of ventilators and personal protective equipment, and business and individuals are also struggling economically.

When ask why such a move he said “Why now? The needs are increasingly urgent, and I want to see the impact in my lifetime. I hope this inspires others to do something similar. Life is too short, so let’s do everything we can today to help people now.”

In case you didn’t know, not just Dorsey but other enterprises has also contributed

  • Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has committed $30m, the bulk of which is focused on efforts to create a treatment.
  • Amazon’s Jeff Bezos has donated $100m to food banks in the US to help those struggling with hunger during this period.
  • Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook announced in March the company would donate medical supplies to Italy which has been hit hard by the virus.

Really grateful for all people that has contributed and it mean a lot. For us, guess the way we can contribute is stay home.
