The entire adult population in Singapore will probably be able to register and received their first vaccine dose by as early as the first week of August announced by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Tuesday, 18 May. MOH also added that they have confidence that the entire adult population can be vaccinated with two doses by end of the year and this result of extending the duration between the first and second dose from three to four weeks to six and eight weeks so more people will be able to get their first dose.
This new vaccine dosing interval will apply to vaccination registration that occurs from 19 May onwards. MOH also said that other countries have already undertaken this strategy which is UK and Germany and extending the duration between the two doses does not cause detrimental effects to those vaccinated with the first dose and they will still be offered protection and receive a robust immunological response.
During a press conference, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung also encouraged those who booked their second dose appointment but wish to volunteer to push the appointments back can do so by calling the vaccination call centre at 1800 333 9999. So that more people will be able to receive their first dose and helping other Singaporean a huge favor.
MOH also said that they will work on strategies to improve access to vaccination for the public particularly for those who are homebound with mobility challenges which makes it difficult for them the come to the vaccination centres. The eligible homebound person receiving home medical, nursing, or personal care services will also be approached by their current home care service provider to ascertain their interest in getting vaccinated through this service too. If they have not been contacted, they can register their interest directly with their current home care service provider. Homebound persons currently not receiving these home care services can appeal for this service by calling the MOH hotline 1800-333-9999.
