S’pore Passport Will be Valid for 10 Years Starting from October Application

The Singapore passport will be valid for 10 years from the current 5 years for the application from October onwards. This increase in the validity period applies to Singapore citizens aged 16 and above who submit the passport application on or after October 1st.
This will reduce the frequency of passport renewal and offer more convenience to all Singaporean, there will be no change to the passport application fee which is remained at $70. While for Singapore’s overseas an equivalent of $80 in a foreign currency will be charged. Foraged below 16, the passport validity will remain at five years as children’s facial features change more rapidly therefore with five years, allowing the photograph to be more updated.
Previously the validity of Singapore passport was reduced to 5 years in 2005 due to the introduction of the biometric passport which incorporated an embedded microchip that contains the passport holder’s biometric information such as facial and fingerprint identifiers. Now the stability of the technology and incorporate enhancement is highly secure and trusted, which gives Singaporeans access to many countries without the need for a visa.
The validity of passports is capped at 10 years in compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) recommendation.
