Scammers In S’pore Pretending to Be Police Officer To Cheat Money From Public

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has alerted the members of the public to a variant of a scam which is related to government officials impersonation scam (GOIS) on April 29, where these scammers will pose as SPF officers and present a fake SPF warrant card to validate their identity to convince the victim if they were under investigation.
Victims have been receiving unsolicited phone calls from callers who claim to be Singapore High Court and they are supposed to transfer to a police officer who informed that they are being investigated for money laundering activities. The victim then will be instructed to download the messaging app, LINE, or WhatsApp for further communication with the police officer. Then the victims will be instructed to provide their personal details that are their family members, bank account details, and more.
The victim then will be instructed to surrender money for investigation by making the transfer to a various bank account controlled by the scammers and the victim is promised that the money transferred to this bank will be returned after complete investigation.
In its press release, SPF emphasized that the police will not instruct members of the public to transfer money to designated bank accounts for investigations. Police officers will also not identify themselves with the SPF warrant card on online platforms.
