1 Dead, 2 in ICU, 9 Discharged From Hospital After Major Lorry Accident on PIE Between a Lorry and Stationary Tipper Truck

An accident that happens between a lorry and a stationary tipper truck on Pan Island Expressway (PIE) before the Jalan Bahar exit around 6 am n Tuesday, April 20 has left one 33 years old male passenger dead and 16 hospitalised. On Tuesday night, the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) provides an update on the condition of the men injured in the accident which is all are migrant workers.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that during the accident, two people were found trapped at the rear compartment of the lorry and were rescued using hydraulic rescue equipment and 17 passengers were conveyed to the hospital while two were unconscious. Then nine of the injured worker have been discharged from the hospital after being treated for minor injuries while seven remains warded and two are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
MWC also added that the migrant workers should be protected under the Work Injury Compensation ACT (WICA) which lets employees make claims for work-related injuries or disease without having to file a civil suit under common law. MWC will also contact the loved one of the deceased worker to offer their sympathies and some interim financial assistance to the family.
