source todayonline

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Fernvale in Ang Mo Kio Grc, Gan Thiam Poh has filed a Parliamentary question on the numbers of drivers caught speeding along 5 roads on the past 18 months where a total of 6,500 drivers were caught for speeding on the road:

  • Fernvale Street
  • Fernvale Link
  • Jalan Kayu
  • Fernvale Road
  • Sengkang West Way

The happens between September 2019 to February 2021 were an average of 11.88 drivers per day over the 18 months. This was due to feedback from residents who complained about being awakened by loud noises from vehicles that were possibly illegally modified for speed. Gan also asked if the five roads can be considered as speeding red zones and asked authorities if they could carry out an operation to tackle speeding and offences of the modified engine that cause excessive noise at these locations.

The penalty for speeding is a fine of up to S$1,000, imprisoned up to three months, or both. For illegally modifying a vehicle, offenders can be fined up to S$5,000, imprisoned up to three months, or both, while repeat offenders can have their penalties doubled.
