Xiaomi Plan to Make Electric Vehicles With Great Wall Motor’s Factory

Xiaomi, which is one of the world’s biggest smartphone makers is currently in discussion with one of the Great Wall’s plant in China to make Electrical Vehicles (EV) under its own brand and Xiaomi will aim at the EVs at the mass market. Great Wall which has not offered manufacturing services with other companies, however they will provide engineering consultancy to speed up the project. Both company plan to announce the partnership as soon as the upcoming weeks.
This plan comes as eight-year-old Xiaomi is seeking to diversify its revenue streams from smartphone business which accounts for the bulk of its incomes and making the backdrop of automakers and tech firm to work closely together to develop smarter vehicles with technology such as smart cabins and autonomous driving.
Xiaomi, founder and chief executive, Lei Jun believes that the firm’s expertise in hardware manufacturing will help to accelerate the design and productions of its EVs and Xiaomi has already made dozens of internet connected devices including scooter, air purifier, rice cookers, telco hardware, smartphones etc.
