On 28 March, the Myanmar military has open fire on a crowd of mourners at the funeral of the 20-year-old student, Thae Maung Maung who was caught in one of the 114 casualties reported on 27 March. He was reported as a member of the All Burma Federation of Student Union, an organisation which is supporting the country’s pro-democracy movement.
There are no casualties reported among the mourners however several of them were arrested and the military reported has interrupted the funeral of a 16 years old teashop waiter who was killed during a night raid by the military on March 21, the waiter’s body was forcibly removed by security forces on the ground due to the need to conduct an autopsy.
Maybe of the city’s residents are a belief that the move by military is an attempt to avoid responsibility for the killings and to manipulate the death toll by controlling the autopsies. The Myanmar military has been escalating with violence against the country’s civilian population. There are more than 3,000 villagers have fled to Thailand and over 10,000 ethnic Karen villagers were forced to leave their home after the military called an air strikes on the southeastern Karen state too.
