Sunseap Group is Singapore’s leading solar energy company where it announced that they have manage to complete the installation of one of the world’s largest floating solar farm on seawater in the Straits of Johor. With this success, five MW peak offshore floating photovoltaic (OFPV) system will leand to more project in the region where offshore solar will be a part of new renewable energy.
The solar farm which take a total of 13,312 panels, 40 inverters and 30,000 floats where it produces an estimated of 6,022,500 kilo-watt hours (kWh) of energy per year, potentially offsetting an estimated 4,258 tons of carbon dioxide, bringing Singapore closer to decarbonisation. The solar farm is equipped with electrical panels, control system and a 22kV transformer where it can transmit the generated power to the national grid.
Mr. Frank Phuan, co-founder and CEO of the Sunseap Group said that it is an important milestone for Sunseap where these opportunities for land-scare and densely populated city to tap on solar energy and there are places which are unobscured from the sun with low risk of vandalism or theft. Sunseap also said that the project was more challenging compare to other land-based or rooftop installation due to the unpredictable nature of open sea where it needs to avoid shipping routes and presence of barnacles.
