Fix Your Android Phone If Your Phone Keeps Crashing Simply By Deleting the WebView

Over the past few hours, there are a large of Android user has encountered Gmail and other app keep on shutting down as on 11pm on Monday, Google has issued a permanent fix for the app crashing issue which involves both Android System Webview and Chrome to version 89.0.4389.105:
- Navigate to Play Store app
- Search for Android System WebView
- Select the “Update” option
- Repeat these steps for Google Chrome
The bug is impacting the device where it will makes your Webview, Chrome and Gmail to be broken and keep on crashing. However, there is an immediate solution where you can visiting this link directly, or going to the “My apps & games” page, swiping left to the “Installed” tab, and scrolling down — it should be one of the first apps. After that, tap “Uninstall” and confirm on the prompt that appears.

- Launch the Google Play Store and go to My apps & games
- Open the “Installed” tab and select Android System WebView
- Tap Uninstall
- Confirm “Uninstall”
- Reboot device
If that does not work for whatever reason, another course of action is going to system Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps > Android System WebView > tap the three-dot overflow menu in the top-right corner > Uninstall updates > OK. These instructions are for Android 11 on Pixel phones, but it should be a similar process on other OS versions and OEM devices.
