Transgender M’sian Woman Gets Death Threats After Saying She Wants to leave Islam
A Malaysian’s transgender has recently received death threats after reportedly announcing that she will be leaving Islam, the Cosmetic Entrepreneur Nur Sajat had purposely said during a live broadcast on Instagram where she wanted to quit the religion because she has been targeted by anti-transgender people despite not doing anything wrong.
On the recent news where she failed to appear at a hearing in the Syariah High Court in February, on insulting Islam by dressing up as a woman during a religious event at her beauty centre in 2018 and 122 officer have been deployed by religious authorities of Selangor to track and arrest Sajat. The move was then condemned by Justice for Sister, a transgender rights group as extremist.
The country’s former minister for Islamic Affairs, Mujahid Yusof Rawa called the public to not to over-react but to convince her back to not leaving Islam, NGOs in Malaysia have since condemned the death threats and voiced their concern for Sajat’s safety and Sisters in Islam has called for the death threats against Sajat to be taken seriously by authorities and community and religious leader alike.
