Why Singers Wear ‘Earphones’ During Performances, Many Do Not Know About this
Surely many of us have noticed professional musicians and singers wearing earphones when performing. It definitely raises questions for us about what they are hearing in the earphones. According to a YouTube Channel called VokalPlus, the earphones in question are actually ‘In-Ear Monitor’ (IEM).
The Cymatics portal explains that this IEM is a device used by musicians to listen to their music while they play it while performing. When you see a singer on stage wearing a pair of devices that look like earphones or earbuds as well as walkie-talkies around their waists, you will actually find that IEM is being installed.
This IEM consists of three components, namely the transmitter, receiver, and a pair of earphones. The transmitter is placed on the side and it serves to send the presentation audio to the receiver. This audio is known as monitor mix. The receiver is usually worn at the waist, where the hearing aid is usually connected. By using the noise cancellation function, the earphones can block unwanted background noise. The mix monitor can then be heard through earphones with good quality.
Usually this tool will be used when an artist performs in places that are open or large and crowded with people. In general, this tool can give more focus to musicians and singers to present their music and singing in a better quality and best to the audience.
