Maxwell Hawker Selling Heritage Ngoh Hiang Fritters Recipe For $1 Million
The hawker who runs the China Street Fritters at Maxwell Food Centre is selling their family’s recipe for it famous Ngoh Hiang fitters. The hawker, 64 years old Huang Guo Hua is currently running the business with his wife and brother and the business has been running for 60 years now.
As the latest news where the second generation of hawkers wanted to sell the business and retire in March 2022 as Huang has been working in the family business since he was 16 years old together with his sibling and he finds that it is the time for him to retire now. As he even mentions that they have been working for 10 hours every day with almost no rest day in a year and it is very taxing to the body as there have been suffering feet ailment from standing too long and their knee caps are also hurt.
His family are decided to sell their heritage fritter recipe for $1 million and it might seem like a very high price but Huang told that the China Street Fritters brand has cultivated a large following over the year and the new owner will be able to continue maintaining its standard which they will be able to recoup the money within three years time.
Huang also mentioned that he hope to find someone who is passionate about F&B and don’t want to hand the business over to a person who will sublet the operation to someone else. As Huang’s three children are working in the aviation, insurance and banking industry which they have no interest in becoming hawker therefore he desires to pass down his father recipe to people who can learn and experience the taste of heritage.
