A 38yo Woman Wearing Noise Cancelling EarBuds Killed by Falling Tree while Running in Park
A 38 year old Singaporean woman died after a tree fall on her in the Marsiling Park on 18 February where the Singapore Civil Defence Force mentioned that they were notified of the incident about 8.15 am and found a person is trapped under the fallen tree and they have tried to free the woman by using cutting equipment but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The commissioner of parks and recreation at NParks, Dr Leong Chee Chiew said that the tree was a 20m tall Araucaria Excelsa tree with a width of 1.3m and it was a healthy 20-year-old tree on last April 2020 inspection and the next inspection was due in October.
Eye witness in the area said that they heard a loud crack before the tree feel onto the woman and there were10 people at the park tried to lift the tree but were unsuccessful. The victim was said to be wearing a noise cancelling earbuds and listening to music while running. The victim’s sister mentioned that she might have heard the cracking sound of the tree falling and would have escaped in time if she is not wearing the earbuds.
