Ex Miss Universe S’pore Contestant Jailed for Shopping Online Using Friends Card Details by Memorizing it down
A former Miss Universe Singapore contestant and also an e-gaming commentator has been sentenced to six weeks in jail after she has memorized her friends debit card details and used them to make some unauthorized purchases. The 27-year-old Ashley Rita Wong Kai Lin where she targets two friends back in 2016 and the first victim is a 28-year-old man who she was going out with, and she took his debit card out from his wallet which he left on the table, and she memorized the card details.
The victim later notice multiple unauthorized transaction to his account where she has made online purchases worth S$230 (RM699.52), items from an online fashion store for S$196 (RM596.11) and tickets worth S$304 (RM924.58). And after disputing with the transaction with his back, the victim manage to get a full refunded and Wong has then retuned to him the rest of money from other transactions.
As the second victim is a 26 years old female friend where she used her debit card for online payment but found that there were insufficient balance despite after her father has transferred S$1,000 (RM3,041.39) to her. And later she found two unauthorized transaction which was a S$264 (RM802.93) stay at a Hotel Clover. As she suspected it was her ex-boyfriend but later realized it was Wong where she has admitted to her crime. The victim also managed to get a full refund from the bank on the hotel stay and Wong repaying the hotel the money she owned.
The third victim was included in a charge, and she has since pleaded guilty to four charges under the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act and another 27 charges were taken into consideration for sentencing. The Deputy Public Prosecutor, Cheng You Duen has asked for the least a two-month jail terms for Wong despite her admitting to her crimes and repaying the victim to a degree and he also pointed out that investigation showed there is no evidence of her victim is forgiving her and her own psychiatric experts could not conclude that she was suffering from any condition of illness at the time too.
