Coca-Cola Company Introduce Paper Bottles to Reduce Earth Wastage
Coca-Cola zero waste campaign
The world ranked the world’s number one plastic polluter in 2020 by a charity group called Break Free from Plastic, as the Coca-Cola company is currently rethinking their waste output worldwide, and they have taken one potentially huge step to achieve this goal by introducing a new paper bottle packaging.
Coca-Cola is currently in the midst of a trial run of 2,000 prototype paper bottles produced by a Danish company called Paboco (Paper Bottle Company) where it is made from an extra strong paper shell that still contains a thin plastic liner inside. And there are few new environmentally friendly packaging Coca-Cola needs to follow in order to make this packaging successful which are:
- Preventing gas escaping from carbonated drinks.
- There must be a barrier that avoids fiber flaking off into the liquid.
- The packaging must not alter the taste of the drink.
- Pass health and safety checks.
While according to Paboco, the challenging part of the paper bottle is to create a structure able to withstand the force of the fizzy drinks and also create a moldable paper in the distinct bottle shapes and sizes of Coca-Cola. Paboco has worked with this prototype with Coca-Cola for the past 7 years and they are ready to host a trial in Hungary with a fruit drinks made by Coca-Cola called Adez and it will available on local retail chain this summer.
