S’pore Man Backpacks to Canada In 9 Months Just by Foot With $10K Spending

We all will think that travelling from Singapore to Montreal in Canada will usually take us around half a day by flights, but it will actually take us 24 hours due to transit changing flights and more. However, Ganesha Balakrishnan do it somehow in a way different route which took him 9 months. Ganesha, who is just 22 year old where he started backpacking from Singapore to Canada in 2018 which he makes his trip through 23 countries in Southeast Asia, China, Central Asia, the Middle East and finally North America, all this by foot or just by land transportation.
Ganesha started his backpacking journey right after he finished his National Service on 30 Nov 2019 with just $10,000 travel fund which he gathered from teaching tuition, and he hitch-hiked his way to Canada. In order to ensure his budget is not overspend, he has a daily budget of $25 for all expenses including travel, food and accommodation.

He will usually resort to the streets, cheap backpacker hostel or couch surfing in local houses to stay within his budget and if he runs out of options, he will usually sleep beside bus stations or a tent in park in his sleeping bags. He even mentioned that he has encountered a lot of interesting experience through-out his journey. Where he recalls one incident in Uzbekistan when he was woken up by a Russian lady in the middle of his sleep on the streets where she invited him to stay at her place for the night, and she mentioned that he is a guest in her country, and he shouldn’t sleep like a dog on the street.
He finally completed his journey on 31 August 2019 and apart from documenting his journey of a lifetime, he is now currently studying in Canada, and he will continue travelling and shares his encounters in the future.
