IKEA Apologizes After Glass Cabinet Explode and Cuts a Man and His 10 yo boy

On January 2, a netizen, by the name Alex and her husband has seen an IKEA glass cabinet were on sales and rushed to the Tampines outlet to grab it, while later on the night when they were setting the cabinet up with their 10-year-old son. The cabinet’s glass suddenly shattered for no reason. Alex mentioned that they weren’t even done setting up the cabinet, and they were just placing the first layer of the glass at the bottom when the glass suddenly shattered.

The shattered glass landed on her husband’s hand and her son’s feet and thankfully her son just got scratched. Alex expressed that she has no idea why the glass exploded, and they were excited to buy it at first because it was one sales for only $69, and now she feels disappointed because of it to cause injuries and quite an inconvenience to her family.

In response to this, the Head of Corporate Communication at IKEA Southeast Asia has immediately reached out to the customer to personally apologize for the unpleasant experience, and they were glad that the family only experience a minor catch, and they have made a special arrangement in the case to provide a direct refund. Ms Schuler also added that the tempered glass is used in most household product and because it generally doesn’t break into uneven shards, instead it will shatter into small pieces. However, the tension caused by a strike, a knock or a scratch stays in the glass and a small impact can make it shatter unexpectedly.
