Antarctica Aren’t Spare From Covid-19 As 1st Outbreak Hits This Free-Covid Continent
The coronavirus has reported hitting at least 36 people at Bernardo O’Higgins base, including 26 army personnel and 10 civilian contractors conducting maintenance at the base, which previously free from Covid-19 Antarctica were not even spared from the Covid-19 virus.
Currently, the base personnel is already isolated and under constant monitor by the health authorities in Magallanes in Chilean Patagonia. Where this research and military stations in Antarctica are among the most remote in the world with extraordinary lengths to keep the virus out.
This British Antarctic Survey estimate about 1,000 people at 38 stations across the frozen continent had safely navigated the southern hemisphere winter without any incident but an uptick in travel from the region this spring and early summer might have caused the infection.
