India Blocks Import of iPhone 12, Xiaomi Accessories, and Oppo since August
According to Reuters, India is hindering a list of imported goods that are built from China and a few tech companies where a product such as Apple’s iPhone 12 series, wearables Xiaomi accessories, and Oppo are being blocked by their Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) from entering the country since August.
It is reported that the paperwork for these goods to enter will be required up to 2 months to complete and this BIS usually process import within just 1 day, the delay is now causing headache to all retailers with the holiday season approaching soon where most people will start spending their money on the biggest year-end sales.
However, according to rumors, this delay might be caused by the border clash which has to happen in the country earlier due to traders and Hindi nationalist groups are calling for a boycott on imported goods from China, and this year India has started to focus heavily on their own self-reliance and local product in the technology industry followed by banning a lot of apps.
Where the country also announced that they will be launching a local app store to rival Apple’s App Store and Google Play store. So it really seems that India is trying to build its own home-grown tech hardware and software soon. What do you think about this and perhaps you have friends from India who can have a better point of view?
