Man Jailed For Successfully Guessing a Pin on Lost Atm Card and Took $8,000 away
A Singaporean man, Yap Yi San, 39 years old was jailed for nine weeks on Wednesday, 18 November after he pleaded guilty for dishonest misappropriation of a bank card and two counts of theft after he found a lost debit card in an ATM and he decided to try his luck on the card’s Pin and on his 3rd attempt he manages to guess it correctly. He withdraws $8,000 from the account later on which he intends to use for paying off his debt.
The atm card owner left the bank card at a DBS ATM machine in Toa Payoh and forgotten to take it back when he was done and he made a police report stating that he forgets to take his bank card on tomorrow.
Yap who has a humble background without any academic level finds that it was a pure luck chance when he found the atm card and he actually sentenced to eight weeks of jail for stealing a handphone from a warehouse he works in the last year too. The judge then added that the sentence should act as a sufficient deterrent to dissuade others who may be attempting to try their luck in the same manner. In which, Yap could have been jailed up to 3 years or fined or both for the dishonest misappropriation of property.
