SportSG and Dow Collaborate to Recycle 300,000 Used Sports Shoes to Build Jogging Tracks and more
The National Sports Agency Singapore (SportSG) and Material Science company DOW with their announcement on 25 September where they will plan to recycle 300,000 pairs of used old sports shoes to build jogging tracks, fitness corners, and playgrounds.
This project which was called “Others see an old shoe. We see the future” and this is the first so far in the Asia Pacific and member of the public can help by donating their used sports shoes at any of 30 collection point which is participating ActiveSG sports centres and stadiums, Decathlon stores, JD Sports stores and more than 30 schools.
The recycling process where the rubberized soles and midsoles will be turned into rubber granules for building sports infrastructure and these granules were bound together by the water-based and solvent-free binder to create a more environmentally friendly and safer sports infrastructure.
