A New Satellite-Based ERP With Smarter IU and OBU Unit To Replaced Old ERP System From 2021
A motorist with their existing vehicle’s Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) will have their old ERP system replaced with a more smart and high-technology version of a satellite-based ERP system in mid-2023 which there will be an additional of in-vehicle units (IUs) and also new onboard units (OBUs) which will be free for all these existing vehicles.
This replacement process will take over 18 months according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Tuesday, Sept 8. This new more advance OBU has touchscreen display which can give real-time road traffic, location of a school zone, silver zone to alert the motorist to look out for children and senior. This new system also will work with existing cards for ERP and car park payments.
As for motorcycles, it will be fitted with a smaller single-piece design. While this replacement of new IU with OBU unit is mandatory for all Singapore registered vehicles except for tractors, construction vehicles, airport vehicles, and some classic or vintage vehicles.
The whole programme of replacing this unit will be scheduled on all vehicles, and the whole process will take less than an hour to install it.
