Jack Ma who is famously know as tech titan Alibaba’s founder and aside form that he is also well know as singer, Michael Jackson impersonator, martial arts movie star and coffee connoisseur — has just announced his plans to step down as Alibaba’s chairman exactly a year from now.
Jack Ma, who has co-founded Alibaba in his apartment 19 years ago and has led it ever since, and the latest news is that will step down as chairman a year from Monday, the company said. He will be succeeded by Daniel Zhang, currently Alibaba’s chief executive.
This retirement news was announced on Monday, Sept. 10, which was also his 54th birthday and Teacher’s Day in China, where in his letter addressed to Alibaba’s employees, customers and investors:
“The world is big, and I am still young, so I want to try new things — because what if new dreams can be realised?!”
We could see Jack Ma teaching again as Jack Ma has mentioned that he wants to devote most of his time to philanthropy, focusing on education, after retirement.
This was the statement made in a Bloomberg interview on Sept. 7 just three days before he made the announcement where he has hinted at his plans to retire:
“I miss (teaching) very much.
I came to the business field by accident. I think someday, very soon, I’ll go back to teaching, go back to education.
This is something I’m much more confident (in). I think I can do it much better than being Alibaba’s CEO.”
Honestly, we do feel that we are gonna miss him but kudos to him for following his dream and devoting himself to education to help more people.
