Ninja Van Driver Jailed For Taking 147 Items From Parcels To Gain Respect From Family
A Singaporean delivery driver was sentenced to jail after stealing over a hundred items that belong to customer back to his own home. Adrian Chong Yuan Kit’s job is delivering a parcel to customers in the Choa Chu Kang area.
The discovery was found when a manager placed a parcel outside of Chong’s delivery route and if there is a different route parcel are placed for Chong, there will be an error alert while the parcel didn’t show any sign of error. Therefore, when the manager approached Chong and search for his van, they found the parcel.
On further investigation reveal that within the three months’ time from February to May, Chong has somehow stolen a total of 147 items. Where he will deliberately not scan those parcels and then load those parcels into his van and drop them off at home before delivering another parcel. The items are range from electronics like an Osim massager, pop-up toaster, and LCD monitor, to make-up items, clothes, healthcare, and skincare products such as facial products, ointment and panty liners.
The list also included eight mobile phones from various brands. Police raided Chong’s house and recovered all 147 items, which were worth S$12,104.03 in total.
In court, the 38-year-old said he was “truly sorry” for his mistake, and had taken the items as he had hoped to “gain respect” for his family.
For criminal breach of trust as an employee, Chong could have been imprisoned for up to 15 years and fined.
