LTA Canceling on Bus 700 In Bukit Panjang Due to $5M/Year Spending Of Public Funds Damage
Bukit Panjang residents are expressing their concern over the 3 bus services that will be cancelled due to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) mentioned that the 2 of the bus services its changing has been failing in ridership which cost up to $5 million a year to run.
This is due to the less ridership in a few buses which falls more than 50% and LTA has to subsidise the cost of running them with public funds. LTA acknowledge the longer travel times for some residents due to the changes is because of the current tough dilemma where The LTA needs to perform a balancing act, taking into account:
- The needs of different commuters
- The existence of alternative travel options
- The burden on taxpayers by way of the public funds it has to spend.
Now that it’s revealed the true cost of running just one bus service, we understand why a fall in ridership would have a great impact on its sustainability.
