PUB To Enhance Treatment Process of Pandan Smell In Tap Water
Regarding the earlier issue of some family reporting, there is a weird pandan smell from the tap water flowing from the household sinks. The Public Utilities Board (PUB) has explained that the odour arose from organic compound tetrahydrofuran (THF) – which was safe for consumption.
After detecting and checking the pandan scent in the water, the PUB traced the compounds were coming from the Johor supply. In the meantime, PUB assured that the water is still safe for consumption and the next step is to clean out the service reservoir, distribution networks and water tanks across the island to remove the traces of THF.
At the moment, PUB advice the citizen to run their taps for 5 minutes to cleanse the system of any lingering odours.
