S’pore Libraries Removed Racist Book After Complaint By Reader

Yesterday, on July 19. After a complaint was lodged by a library patron on a children’s book in Chinese whereby it is racist has resulted from the National Library Board (NLB) to remove the book from its shelves. Thanks to the quick response from NLB that due to the recent issue of racial and racist scenes happening globally it is necessary for these actions to be taken.

This book was published in 2018 by Marshall Cavendish Education and it is a part of series of 5 books in which the title is Amazing Adventures of Pi Pi which are targeting the children at age seven to nine.

The patrons mentioned that she has borrowed the book from Bedok Library on Thursday and she notices that the book is sort of racist due to the contrast to all the other characters who are depicted as fair-skinned and mentioning the sole dark0skinned characters irredeemably nasty.

Guess NLB quick act after discovering this is very important as children are taught at a young age and all this negativity will be planted in their mind if aren’t thought in the correct way.
