S’porean Couple Sentenced to 27yr Jail For Murdering 5-Year-Old Son
A Singaporean couple who went on trial for murdering their 5-year-old son has been sentenced to 27 years of jail on July 13 which involved causing grievous hurt by dangerous means. The husband, Ridzuan mega Abdul Rahman were given 27 years’ jail and 24 strokes of the cane while his wife, Azlin Arujunah was also given 27 years of jail and an additional year in prison in lieu of canning.
Their son, the victim in which his identity was protected by a gag order was born in 2011 and was initially been fostered to a close friend of his mother as they don’t have time to take care of him. In May 2015, he was eventually returned back to them and after a year later, he started to get abused by them.
Their method of abuse are:
- pinching him with pliers
- hitting him with a broom
- confining him to a cage meant for a cat
- splashing him with near-boiling water
- punching him in the face
When interviewed by the prosecution’s psychiatrist, Ridzuan admitted that he frequently beat his wife over minor disagreements and he said that he might have misdirected his anger towards his son. While on Azlin’s side, she was experienced abuse at the hand of her parents in the past and her father who was a dry addict and were sent to prison eventually.
