Endangered Hawksbill Turtle Sighted Nesting On Singapore Shores
A rare sighting today when a Hawksbill turtle was seen reaching on Singapore shores and looking for a nesting ground on July 2. While previously a hawksbill turtle has successfully laid eggs last month in ECP on World Turtle Day, this female turtle seems to unable to find a spot to her liking.
Based on the size of this turtle according to National Park Board (NParks), this female turtle is unlikely to be a first-time mother. NParks officers also tried to indicate this sea turtle with the latest flipper tagging and according to NParks, these flipper tags are conventional practice used internationally to track turtles, while each of these tags is a weight around 5g each.
NParks also advise the member of the public that if they happen to have encountered a turtle, they must keep their distance and speak softly and call NParks helpline 1800-471-7300.
