One-Punggol-–-Japan-Summer-Festival 21-22 June 2025: One Punggol – Japan Summer Festival: Free Art & Craft Workshops Event, Creative Family Fun Activities at No Cost

Looking for a unique, hands-on family outing in Singapore this June that won’t cost a cent? Then look no further than the Japan Summer Festival 2025 at One Punggol, where families and creative individuals alike can immerse themselves in a variety of free art and craft workshops over the weekend of 21 and 22 June 2025 (Saturday and Sunday). Whether you’re a lover of all things Japanese or simply searching for a wholesome community event filled with engaging activities, this is one event not to be missed.

This event is more than just another cultural festival. It’s an interactive experience that brings Japanese tradition and creativity to life in the heart of Singapore, and it does so with zero entry fees. That’s right — all workshops are completely free of charge, with no pre-registration required. Just turn up, take a seat, and start crafting. All materials are provided, and participation is based on a first-come, first-served basis — a gentle nudge to arrive early and secure a spot!

Let’s take a deeper look at why this event is worth making time for, what visitors can expect, and how families can make the most of it.

What’s on Offer?

Over the course of two days, One Punggol will transform into a bustling space of creativity, colour, and Japanese flair. Every hour from noon to 9pm, a different craft session will be conducted. These workshops are suitable for both children and adults, and they provide an excellent opportunity to pick up traditional Japanese crafting skills that aren’t commonly taught in regular classes.

Here’s the full daily schedule for both days:

  • 12:00pm – 1:00pm: Mini Koinobori Making
The Koinobori, or carp streamer, is a symbol of strength and perseverance in Japanese culture. In this session, participants can create their own vibrant mini versions, often seen during Children’s Day in Japan.

  • 2:00pm – 3:00pm: Kokeshi Doll Stir Stick Crafting
Kokeshi dolls are wooden, hand-painted figures that are loved for their simplicity and charm. Here, visitors will decorate wooden stir sticks in the likeness of these dolls — perfect as a keepsake or even a functional kitchen addition.

  • 4:00pm – 5:00pm: Kumihimo Braiding
Kumihimo is a traditional Japanese art of braid-making, often used to create intricate cords and accessories. This activity is especially therapeutic and ideal for those who enjoy detail-oriented handiwork.

  • 6:00pm – 7:00pm: Hinamatsuri Doll Craft
Celebrating Girls’ Day in Japan, Hinamatsuri dolls are usually displayed in sets. Attendees will get to make their own simple versions, combining paper folding and decorating techniques.

  • 8:00pm – 9:00pm: Hinamatsuri Paper Fan Crafting
End your evening on a creative high note by crafting beautiful decorative fans — another nod to traditional Japanese celebrations. These fans are not only fun to make but also practical in Singapore’s warm weather.

Each session is guided with basic instruction and open-ended enough to allow personal flair, so attendees can take pride in walking away with a creation that’s uniquely theirs.

Why Should They Go?

There are countless reasons to set aside some time this weekend for the Japan Summer Festival at One Punggol — and they go far beyond just free crafts.

1. Celebrate Japanese Culture Firsthand

This is a rare chance for Singaporeans to explore Japanese art and tradition without travelling abroad or paying for workshop fees. Each workshop touches on a cultural story, be it about festivals, historical figures, or symbolic icons, helping to deepen appreciation for the art forms.

2. Perfect for Families

With activities running throughout the day, families can drop in at any time to participate. There’s no pressure to stay for the entire day, which makes it ideal for families with young children. Each activity lasts about an hour, so it’s easy to plan around meals or other weekend errands.

3. Budget-Friendly and Inclusive

In an age when family entertainment often comes with a price tag, this event stands out as both accessible and enjoyable. There’s no need to bring anything other than enthusiasm. All materials are provided at no cost, and the walk-in format means everyone gets a fair chance.

4. Community Atmosphere

Events like this bring neighbours and friends together. Whether you’re heading there with kids, inviting grandparents along, or simply tagging with a friend for some bonding time, you’ll find a welcoming, community-driven vibe that adds a whole new level of enjoyment.

5. Strategic Location

One Punggol is conveniently located and easily accessible via public transport. As a relatively new integrated hub, it also offers other amenities such as dining spots, shopping outlets, and recreational areas — making it a great one-stop destination for the day.

Tips to Make the Most Out of Your Visit

  • Arrive Early: Since participation is based on a first-come, first-served basis, getting there before the scheduled session times will increase your chances of securing a spot.

  • Plan Your Crafts: Review the schedule beforehand and identify which workshops interest you or your children the most. That way, you can time your visit accordingly.

  • Stay for Multiple Sessions: There’s no limit to how many sessions you can join, so feel free to come for more than one craft — just be sure to queue early.

  • Bring a Tote Bag: You’ll likely walk away with more than one handmade item. Bring a reusable tote bag to carry your masterpieces safely home.

Beyond Crafting: Explore the Japan Summer Festival

While the highlight is clearly the craft workshops, the Japan Summer Festival 2025 may offer additional cultural showcases, music performances, or food booths — details typically emerge closer to the event day or on social media updates. It’s always a good idea to follow the organisers online for last-minute announcements or bonus activities.
