Covid-19 Effect – UN Predicts Global Food Shortage & Spike In Prices For The Months Of April & May

by Brian Chan April 2, 2020

This is really shocking. As the aftereffects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) predicts a food shortage globally in the months of April till May

The main reason for this food shortage is because of a depletion in resources. As we all know most people are quarantined and no resources are out to work on the food.

As according to an article by South China Morning Post, international agencies and food experts has already stated that the Covid-19 pandemic has already disrupted the food supply chain which has caused a lot of food to increase in prices. The disruption could mostly affect countries with a weaker structure especially if many restrict export.

Based on statistics, FAO reported that they have already begin to see signs of how the lock down is affecting the food supply chain like for example, the slowdown in the shipping industry. They noted how disruption, logistics wise, could be come a reality in the coming month

But for now, the food disruption is at its minimum effect because food resources are still very much available. However, an increase in prices is already evident in high value products like meat and food commodities like potatoes, vegetables, fish, etc.
