A newly unmanned Convenience store located at Hougang CC where the in-store products are largely made of instant food items, snacks and tidbits originated from China. Those who are familiar with the popular sour and spicy rice noodles which are known as Suan La Fen from Hai Chi Jia are now having promotions of S$0.99 per tub of noodles, instead of the regular price of S$3.

The Octobox brand instant noodles were well stocked with a variety of instant noodles from different countries of origin. You can also find other side dishes which go well with your instant noodles such as dried seafood and ready-to-eat packaged products. There are also potato chips, dried nuts, biscuits and sweets. Besides the wide variety of food and drinks, the convenience store stocks everyday necessities like female sanitary products, masks and shower gels.

First time customer needs to bring along their phones to sing up for an Octobox account and register their palm on the biometric scanner by the store entrance and then the account will be linked to the customer’s DBS PayLah wallet or NETS card and this store are using the radio-frequency identification (RFID) and biometric technology where each store item is tagged with an RFID chip and to check out the item placed in a box where RFID sensors will detect the individual items and there is no need to scan each item individually.

Payment for items is made through palm scanning and verification has to be made with the last four digits of the customer’s mobile number.

The first Octobox outlet opened in NUS in July 2019.
