CNY shopping in JB – Make Sure You Aware of These Things That You Cannot Bring in From Malaysia

by Brian Chan January 16, 2020

We, Singaporean for sure are smart consumer thus we will scan around to see where has the cheaper price before purchase. On fact is that for sure, the price from JB will always be unbeatable! Hello .. SGD is x3 of MYR

Especially now, when it’s almost near CNY, people are stock for their CNY stocks and some people go extra miles (across the sea) to buy cheap cheap stocks. We are here to remind you of something that you need to be aware of cause bring these into Singapore will be landing you some problem!

Here are the full lists:

Bak Kwa, Lap Cheong And Other Meat Products

You must be very sad now. How can our beloved Bak Kwa be included in our lists!! And Lap Cheong is also in the lists summore!  There are lists of livestock, meat and meat products can only be imported from (as per list of SFA-approved countries) but sadly Malaysia’s not one of them.

Fruits And Vegetables

If you’re planning to cook a big annual reunion dinner, and plan to buy from Johor, then you need to think again. Fruits and Vegetables is listed as part of the no no from the SFA. But little good news is that that SFA allows each person to bring in “a small, reasonable quantity” of fresh fruits and veggies for personal consumption. A little doesn’t mean you can bring back boxes after boxes of produce.

Seafood

Planning for seafood feast? Here is a good news for you where seafood can be brought over to Singapore with the exception, you can’t bring in any oysters. But there is a restriction on the how much you can take and each person is only allowed a maximum of 5kg for fish products and 2kg for frozen cooked crabmeat and prawn meat.

The above are just some of the lists and you can refer the full details a sper the below table.

Just to inform you folks that as according to the ICA website, items without proper licenses or authorisation may be retained by an officer and referred to the authorities for approval. For those who have had things confiscated will be given a warehouse deposit receipt to claim their item after the relevant authorities have issued approval to bring it into Singapore.

So make sure you are aware of this and share this with your friends to. Make sure they are aware so they don’t kena catch for bringing so called “illegal” stuff into Singapore!
