In case you didn’t know, 1-for-1 and 50% off are not the same thing. Guess you didn’t know le …
Often when we go out, we see lotsa promotion it’s 1-for-1 or 50% off but do you know that they are not the same thing? When you see it, it might look the same but are both of them the same thing? Well, they’re not!
We will explain the to you the difference of the 1-for-1 and 50% off (using food promotion as example), so that you will understand and not get confused when you are seeing this promotion! We want to let you optimise your purchase to make the best use of each promotion and not making the wrong decision.
So what’s the difference la of 1-for-1 and 50% Off
When you use a 1-for-1 promotion, you’re essentially paying the full price for 1 item, and getting another 1 ‘free’. The most obvious example is that you will you can’t choose what ‘free’ item which normally the optimal decision is for the second item to be equal in price.
For the case of 50% off, the price of items you ordered will be added up, and then a 50% discount is applied to it. So you can choose 2 of your item that you wanted
On the taxes wise, we are taking food for example, for 1 for 1 deal, you will only be paying the GST and service charge for one item, because the second meal is ‘free’ so the taxes can only be levied on the first meal.
For the 50% off, all the GST and taxes will then be added back into your final bill. In short, you will be paying slightly more in GST and taxes, as compared to a 1-for-1 type of deal.
Too complicate? Let us show you some example so that you can understand more detail (food for example).
Example 1 – Ordering Two Same-Price Items:
1-for 1:
Half Pork Spare Ribs: $30
Half Pork Spare Ribs: (Free)
Sub-total: $30
10% Service Charge on $30: $3
7% GST on $33: $2.31
Total: $35.31
50% Off:
Half Pork Spare Ribs: $30
Half Pork Spare Ribs: $30
Sub-total: $60
50% Off on $60: -$30
10% Service Charge on $60: $6
7% GST on $36: $2.52
Total: $38.52
That’s quite a difference in price among two promotions that appear to be equivalent on the surface!
Example 2 – Ordering Two Differently Priced Items:
1-for 1:
Half Pork Spare Ribs: $30
Buffalo Wing: (Free)
Sub-total: $30
10% Service Charge on $30: $3
