S’pore Hawker Culture listed as UNESCO’s culture Heritage with over 460 entries
The UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity has added the Hawker Culter for the 15th session of the Intergovernmental Committee (ICG) with over 460 entries. Where the recommendation was adopted by 24 member committee and witnessed by 117 state parties and accredited nongovernment organisation to the 2003 conventions for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
This award is especially meaningful for Singapore’s hawkers and it is a well-deserved recognition for their hard work. And to celebrate Singapore’s successful hawker culture, a 3-week SGHawkerFest will launch from 26 December till 11 January 2021. This activity will include online treasure hunts, quiz and virtual badges which can be exchanged into dining vouchers redeemable from 29 participating hawker centres islandwide.
