Fort Canning’s Majestic Banyan Tree Fall Due to Heavy Storm
While many Singaporean appreciated the cool weather which in a result of heavy rainfall over the weekend, there was a saddening story as the heritage tree in Fort Canning has topped. The tree, which was located on a slope of Fort Canning Hill was a Burmese Banyan, The roots of the 22 m tall tree come loose due to soil failure brought up by the heavy rain from 1 to 2 January.
According to some passers-by, and they wouldn’t be able to miss it when they looked towards Fort Canning from the junction of River Valley Road and Clemenceau Avenue. With less than 24 hours, works of cleaning were completed and 1 lane of the road was reopened on Monday (4 January).
