S’porean Elders Working in Jakarta Gets Covid-19 Warded in ICU with Netizen Helps Raised $88,000 To Fly him Back S’pore for Treatment
Sometimes, when you have parents who are working far abroad from home and during this pandemic time when your parents on abroad were caught in the Covid-19 virus and in order to fly him back here to Singapore will cost you a bomb. Certainly for someone who is under such circumstances will be frantic and face a huge problem as to fly your parents back here will cost you at least $85,000 on Air Ambulance.
This touching stories when all Singaporean comes together as one, when a 64 years old Abdul Rashid Sahari who is a quality control officer at a power generation plant in Jakarta and has been working there for the past 20 years and the only family who is with him is his wife Mdm Safiah, 56. Which suddenly one-day shocking news comes as Mr. Rashid suddenly tested positive for the virus a few days after the result come back as negative earlier in the routine test.
Which then he started to get his body weakened and when you requested to be warded in the hospital while the hospital instructed you to go back home for self-quarantine and recuperate at home while his wife living under the same roof becomes infected too although her symptoms were much milder. 2 days later after receiving his 2nd result, Mr. Rashid’s condition becomes worse and forcing him to return to the clinic a 2nd time and he was allegedly told to go home again but the examination shows that the oxygen level in his body is very low therefore he finally referred to a private hospital in Jakarta.
As Mr. Rashid admitted to the hospital were just the beginning of a disaster where his wife was all alone at home which she was having covid-19 virus too and if she requires help it will be difficult, while her children request to keep her at the hospital but were denied by hospital instead. 2 days later after Mr.Rashid admitted to the hospital his condition becomes very critical and his son-in-law who is working in BERITA Mediacorp aware of the whole situation try to plan to take him back here to Singapore via Air Ambulance which will cost him a whopping cost of $85,000 and moving Mr. Rashid from the hospital will also carry a huge risk.
However, because there isn’t any alternative left as his father’s life is in critical condition, he appeals a post on their blog which garnered $88,000 in donations, easily covering costs for the emergency operation with just 23 hours. Mr. Rashid then arrived safely back in Singapore on 7 December with his wife just a day after.
Now Mdm Safiah is recovering in a dedicated facility while Mr. Rashid is still in the ICU at the National Centre for Infectious Disease (NCID) according to BERITA Mediacorp. With the latest news on 17 December, Mr. Rashid finally has his endotracheal tube (ETT) being removed and allowing him to talk and it is a positive sign that he is recovering.
This whole stories which somehow show that when it comes to an emergency situation, sometimes if you voice it out.
