This Dragon Boat Festival, Chinatown Food Street (CFS) is proud to introduce its inaugural rice dumpling hunt that will be held onSaturday, 4 June 2016. This traditional festival has been celebrated for years with the iconic festive dish. And while some rice dumplings kept to time-tested traditional recipes, others have evolved with the changing palates of the modern generation. Through this exciting showdown, CFS seeks to unveil the ultimate champion of this well-loved festive product via a blind taste test and public voting.
The Showdown
The arena will be opened to 250 public voters where an array of rice dumplings specially curated from popular retailers and Chinese restaurants will be anonymously displayed in a blind taste test. For the first time ever, public voters can make a difference in declaring the “King of Rice Dumplings” and also identify their favourite rice dumpling creation. No longer would they have to quietly contend among themselves with the array of rice dumplings in town, the hunt also helps to address the dilemma of where to find the best rice dumpling.
This unique event also features a stellar line-up of invited food and culinary professionals including writers, chefs and influencers. Our esteemed guests will play an important role in crowning Singapore’s Best Rice Dumpling 2016 where their votes will count for a significant 30% weightage of the total score through a pre-event blind taste test.
In this incognito showdown, all the competing rice dumplings will come under unbiased judgement. On top of revealing Singapore’s number one rice dumpling, CFS hopes to preserve the tradition of enjoying rice dumplings with family and loved ones, while highlighting the historical significance of this festival through this light-hearted rice dumpling hunt, especially to the younger generation and even tourists.
Voters Rejoice
Besides being able to sample a variety of rice dumplings and vote for their favourite one, 1 lucky voter of the winning rice dumpling also stand a chance to walk away with S$288 cash prize. 25 early bird voters will also take home exquisite tea cups or tea leaves sets from T30 Kung Fu Teahouse worth up to $80. All voters will also receive a festive goodie bag each.
Crowning of the King
Witness history being created as the rice dumpling with the highest number of votes gets crowned as Singapore’s first “King of Rice Dumplings”.
