All Things Singapore Kangkar Fishing Village A Fishing Story. Once situated at the end of Upper Serangoon, Kangkar sat on prime land slated for redevelopment. In 1984, the fish merchants moved to a new wholesale complex at Punggol, while the last of the few hundred villagers were resettled in 1986. However, the Punggol Fishery Port was eventually relocated to Senoko Fishing Port in 1997.
In the second talk of the series, trace the story of Kangkar fishing village as author and speaker Shawn Seah shares memories and stories of its history, daily life, wholesale fish market and its redevelopment.
