With stronger demand for smarter homes, wireless smart bulbs are definitely going to stay but one of the main reasons they are not invading our homes yet is simply the cost. Sure, there might be affordable options that are made in China but the quality and software is more often than not, disappointing. When compared to well-made ones such as the Philips Hue or LIFX bulb, the price simply turns most buyers away.
Qube, as pictured above, seems to be promising. The latest Wi-Fi smart light bulb to hit crowd-funding platform Indiegogo looks subtle, well-designed and comes with a smartphone app with an interface that won’t make you cringe. It turns on automatically when you are home or off when you move away, tells the weather and is compatible with IFFT. The best news of course is its price, at just US$19 a piece it is quite possibly the most affordable smart bulb we have seen, on average a multi-colour LED smart bulb cost around US$50 each. Qube, unlike some smart bulb systems, doesn’t require an additional hub to communicate. Simply plug in, connect to the internet and use and control them from the app.
Specs wise, a single Qube bulb provides up to 800 lumens or 60W of brightness with a colour temperature range between 2,500K and 9,000K. Fits with all E27, E26 Edison Screw Base and B22 Bayonet Cap and comes with a dual voltage so it can be used anywhere in the world.
All Qubes are expected to be shipped by June 2016 if you pre-order one now and comes with a warranty period of one year.
