Free Kobo E-Reader Experience and Free Books at City Square Mall Singapore Until 11 April 2027

Looking for a free activity in Singapore that combines reading, discovery and a little bargain hunting? Book lovers, families with children and anyone who enjoys discovering a good story have something interesting to look forward to at City Square Mall. The Sit-n-Read reading space by Rakuten Kobo and the National Library Board (NLB) offers visitors a chance to try Kobo e-readers, explore digital book previews and take selected pre-loved physical books home for free.

Running from 19 October 2026 to 11 April 2027, this reading space is an excellent option for those who want to enjoy a worthwhile activity without adding extra expenses to their shopping budget. Instead of spending money on new books or entertainment, visitors can discover new reading materials, explore the convenience of digital reading and perhaps find their next favourite story.

Located on Level 3 of City Square Mall, the reading space is easy to include in a shopping trip, family outing or casual visit to the mall. Best of all, admission is free, making it an appealing stop for anyone who wants to enjoy something different from the usual shopping and dining experience.

Discover the World of Digital Reading with Kobo

Have you ever wondered whether an e-reader would suit your reading habits? The Kobo x NLB Sit-n-Read reading space provides an opportunity to explore digital reading in a physical setting before deciding whether to invest in an electronic reading device.

Visitors can try selected Kobo e-readers provided at the venue and browse previews of available digital books. This allows readers to experience how digital books can be read on an electronic device, offering a useful introduction for those who are more accustomed to traditional printed books.

For people who regularly read novels, short stories or other digital publications, an e-reader can be an interesting alternative to carrying several physical books around. It may also appeal to commuters who prefer having reading material available without bringing along a heavy book in their bags.

Of course, visiting this reading space does not require anyone to purchase a Kobo device. The attraction is the opportunity to try the reading experience for free and learn more about digital books at their own pace.

If you have been considering switching to an e-reader but are unsure whether you would enjoy the format, this could be a practical opportunity to explore the experience before making a purchasing decision.

Find Your Next Read Through the NLB Mobile App

The experience does not end after browsing the digital book previews. Visitors who discover a title that catches their attention can scan the QR code displayed at the end of the preview using their mobile phones.

From there, they can use the NLB Mobile app to borrow the full e-book, subject to availability and the applicable library borrowing requirements.

This is particularly useful for readers who enjoy discovering new titles but prefer not to spend money buying every book they want to read. Instead of purchasing a book immediately, they can explore the available library collection and borrow eligible digital titles.

It is also a convenient way to discover books outside your usual reading preferences. You might visit the reading space looking for a particular type of story and leave with a new author or genre to explore.

Visitors who plan to use this feature should have their mobile phones ready and check the NLB Mobile app requirements before visiting. Digital borrowing depends on the availability of the selected title and the applicable library conditions, so not every book preview will necessarily be available for immediate borrowing.

Nevertheless, the combination of physical e-reader trials and access to digital library borrowing makes this a useful experience for anyone interested in making reading more accessible and affordable.

Take Home Selected Pre-Loved Books for Free

While digital reading is one of the highlights, people who still love the feel of printed books have another reason to visit.

The Sit-n-Read reading space also features selected pre-loved physical books curated by NLB. These books cater to different age groups, including adults and children, giving visitors an opportunity to browse available titles and discover something interesting to read at home.

The best part is that selected books can be taken home for free. This provides an appealing alternative to purchasing brand-new books, especially for families who want to encourage reading without constantly spending on additional reading materials.

For parents, the opportunity is particularly attractive. Children can discover stories, explore different subjects and develop their interest in reading without the pressure of choosing a book that must be purchased.

A visit could also become a simple family activity. Parents can browse the available titles alongside their children, discuss interesting stories and encourage younger readers to choose books that match their interests.

Adults can benefit from the selection too. Whether you enjoy fiction, general reading or simply like the excitement of discovering an unexpected title, browsing a collection of pre-loved books can be a rewarding experience.

As the selection may change over time, there is no guarantee that a particular title will be available. Visitors are encouraged to explore the books on display and choose from the available selection.

There is also an important way to help others enjoy this initiative. After finishing a book taken home from the reading space, visitors are encouraged to return it to the designated area so that other readers can enjoy it as well.

This helps give books a longer life and allows more people to benefit from the reading space.
