National Gallery Singapore Special Deal. This robot fits right into an apocalyptic or cyberpunk movie set, doesn’t it?
The artwork title refers to German artist Joseph Beuys, a friend of Nam June Paik who claimed to have been rescued by Tatar tribesmen after his plane crashed in Crimea during a World War II combat bombing mission. Although this story was later proven untrue, it became the basis of Beuys’s art and inspired Paik to represent his friend and their shared interest in bridging the East and the West, man and nature, and the scientific and the spiritual.
