Xiaomi Singapore has launch their new Mi Wi-Fi router now. Enjoy latest iteration known as Mi Wi-Fi. Not your average wireless router, this all-white device comes with either a 1TB or an enormous 6TB storage option and many more.
It’s interesting that Xiaomi decided to use surveillance-optimised harddisks from Seagate and Toshiba on the Mi Wi-Fi, these are highly reliable storage solution for video surveillance purposes. Meaning to say Mi Wi-Fi’s storage has very little chance of failure even if they are turned on 24 hours a day, which they are designed to do so.
The new Mi Wi-Fi router is also capable of backing up your photos on your cameras when connected and smart enough to do it incrementally so you won’t see duplicates. Xiaomi’s latest router is also very media intelligent, allowing users to access Mi video library and download the latest TV show episodes automatically, but we believe the contents are China domestic only.
At the back of the router there are 4 x gigabit ports and a USB port that connects to external devices. Xiaomi additionally introduced a nifty Mi Wi-Fi Amplifier, a USB stick that automatically pairs up when inserted into the Mi Wi-Fi router USB port, after which you simply plug it into a USB charger anywhere in the house to expand the router’s wireless reach.
On the hardware side of things, the Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi router there’s a very fast Broadcom 1.4GHz processor, a huge 512MB flash storage, 2×2 dual-band PCB antennas, 9 internal interference shield and a graphics-grade cooling system. Xiaomi is also claiming a very fast 58MB/s wireless transfer speed, that’s 2 times faster than a standard USB 2.0 connection.
You won’t be able to get your hands on one anytime soon since the latest Mi Wi-Fi router is only available in China at the moment although we have little doubt it will eventually appear on Mi Singapore online store. The Mi Wi-Fi router starts at ¥699 (est~S$151.42) for the 1TB storage and ¥2,999 (est~S$649.66) for the 6TB option.
